Creative Ways to Eat Healthy

Alright, here’s the skinny: eating healthy isn’t the easiest thing we’ve ever done. Especially while running a food app. Sometimes we’ll be like “YEAH, we’re surrounded by tons of foodspiration, we can totally eat clean and fresh!” And then someone posts something like this:

We’re only human.

But the thing is, healthy food does not equal gross food. There’s an image coming to mind of a family in the sixties forcing their kids to eat three whole cups of unseasoned brussels sprouts or no ice cream for dessert. For the record that never happened to me; maybe that’s the effect of a lot of TV shows. Needless to say, it doesn’t have to be that way! Even if you’re feeling like a healthy cleanse is what you need, it doesn’t have to be boring!

For Breakfast

Make a deluxe breakfast smoothie
Guys, this is fun. And smoothies don’t have to mean fruit, yogurt, and ice. Give that thing all you’ve got! Throw in chia seeds, dates for sweetness, almond milk, really go crazy with it. Or try a green smoothie! Get creative here. There is no better way to start your day.

Modify a classic with a quick caprese breakfast
Something like this is a real favorite of ours. Super delicious. But no need to write it off just yet! Consider its core healthy ingredients: tomatoes, eggs, basil, oils (in moderation). As for the English muffins and the mozzarella? Go for a half fat thinly sliced mozzarella and whole wheat muffins! A hearty healthy and delicious take on a classic.

For Lunch

Go simple and try these easy healthy avocado tuna sandwiches
Easy and healthy? Nice. You probably have most of these ingredients in your house already. Put them together for something different! I recommend investing in a panini press. Trust me.

Go adventurous with a zesty chicken quesadilla
The great thing about quesadillas is that you can make them as healthy as you want by adding whole wheat tortilla. Or finding a recipe where it’s already included like this one! Veggies and low-fat cheeses make this a great choice.

Pro tip: make your lunch the night before and reheat it in the office at lunch. You’ll save time & calories, and everyone will be jealous of your delicious lunches. You can tell them you got the recipes on Tender Social Food.

For Dinner

Substitute fats for flavor like these tender garlic lemon green beans
Take this recipe below. There’s not much to it, but it is packed with flavors and spices to make up for anything it might not have. Sure, it’s not creamy, but it’s just as delicious!

Try something new like these tequila lime chicken kebabs
So you’ve never used a grill before, eh? Now’s the time to learn! No need to give up your love of cooking for healthier meals. You can constantly experiment and still eat better things.

For Dessert

Guiltless pleasures like a healthy peach sundae
Who knew that dessert, too, can be better for you? Maybe not good for you, per say, but not as terrible. We’re all about this recipe below.

Even more options…
Actually, we feel like you’ll probably want a lot of these…so here ya go:
